☕️ Cafe Culture in South Korea

Café culture in South Korea is on another level, and Jeju is no exception. Cafés are not just places to grab a quick drink. They are full experiences, designed with creative themes, photo spots, and menus that feel more like dessert art than simple sweets.

Many locals spend their weekends café hopping, meeting friends for long chats, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a beautifully crafted latte.

Across the country you will find themed cafés, minimalist design cafés, ocean view cafés, pet cafés, and high end dessert cafés. Each one has its own personality, and there is a strong emphasis on presentation and atmosphere.

This love for cafés has become such a big part of Korean lifestyle that even small islands like Jeju are filled with trendy spots, making it one of the most fun places to explore for coffee lovers and anyone who enjoys unique and aesthetic spaces.

⭐️ Things to Know About Cafes in Jeju

  • Hours: While cafes in the US and other areas of the Western world typically open very early, the ones in South Korea do not. The earliest you'll see a cafe open is 9 AM, and most cafes get busy later in the afternoon.
  • Drinks: Cafes in Jeju offer a variety of drinks from matcha and cappuccino to fresh juices. Most of them do not serve alcohol, but a few of them that stay open later do.
  • Food: The majority of cafes in Jeju only serve drinks. There are typically no meals served, but some do have pastries, baked goods, or small snacks. It's best not to go to these when you're super hungry!
  • Prices: Cafes in Jeju are all about the vibe, so you can expect to pay a bit more than you would in a regular restaurant. Coffee and teas typically are around $4-5, while cakes are around $5-10.

They have a wide assortment of pastries to choose from, laid out on a long table inside, and they also have Wifi, and a variety of coffees, teas, and juices as well.

🌊 Comma (쉼표)

Comma is one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Jeju! It sits right on the water, and has three floors to enjoy.

Floor 1 is for ordering you drink/food and has a fun busy vibe, while floors 2 and 3 have cabanas lined up. We'll be honest - it was a bit weird that they were just for photos, but we couldn't help snapping some photos here!

We're also not going to lie to you - our food was absolutely atrocious. Whatever you do, DO NOT get the savory croiffle. We really just recommend coming here for a drink, some pictures, and to enjoy the incredible views they have.

🪞 Beryl (베릴)

Beryl is one of the most stylish cafés in Jeju with its sleek design and curated décor. With high ceilings, mirrors, and large glass windows, it's super inviting and aesthetic. While the indoor is stylish and classy, the outdoor has a beach club vibe to it, and is equally appealing.

The drinks are high quality and beautifully served, and the café’s atmosphere feels both modern and relaxing. It is a must visit if you enjoy chic spaces with great coffee.

🍊 Cafe the Container (카페 더 콘테나)

This was absolutely one of our favorite cafes in Jeju! The design is a giant orange shipping container, and it has two stories - the cafe where you order at the top, and a sleek, open-designed cafe with seating at the bottom. The best part? Your order then comes down an elevator!

They're known for their tangerine latte and tangerine cake, as well as their entire field of tangerines that you can walk around out back. They also offer a second seating area in a building out back, along with outdoor seating for when the temperatures are pleasant.

Keep in mind that this cafe just has drinks and desserts, and is also a bit out of the way if you're taking public transportation. So we recommend coming here if you have a car, and not if you're extremely hungry.

This is one of our weirdest finds, but definitely a must-try! The cafe is known for making madeleines that are shaped like rocks, and they have a beautiful outdoor garden.
