This is a great change from the traditional sightseeing bus. Instead, hop on this lovely bus from decades ago, and go on a tour around the city. The guides are really knowledgeable, and there's a lot of anecdotes about the different places around. In addition, you really get to dive into  the culture of Queretaro, Mexico.

Things to Do in Queretaro, Mexico #3: Go Wine Tasting

For all the wine lovers out there, this is for you. Queretaro, Mexico is known for having really good wineries around it. So good, to the point that you can visit the "ruta de los quesos y vinos" (The cheese & wine route).

We visited Sala Vivé by Freixenet, which is the most popular one around the area. You have different tour options, but the one we did included a visit to their underground storage area and their production equipment. Lastly, it finished off with a tasting of 3 local wines (and 5 delicious tapas).

As this is not inside the city, we can't say it's one of the best things to do in the city of Queretaro. Nevertheless, it's definitely one the best things to do in the state of Queretaro, Mexico.

Things to Do in Queretaro, Mexico #4: Check Out the Zona Arqueológica El Cerrito

Just 7 kilometers from the city of Querétaro is El Cerrito. Here is one of the archaeological sites that was occupied by different indigenous cultures. The remains of the pyramid reach a height of 25 meters. Observe its walls and facades built with basalt stones and, at the time, were painted by hand in red, blue and other colors.

However, there is a peculiar fact in the archaeological zone of Querétaro, Mexico. At the top of the Pyramid there is a construction called the Fort. It was built in 1887 by the owner of the former Hacienda El Cerrito, and was used as a house. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Queretaro, Mexico.

Things to Do in Queretaro, Mexico #5: Go to Jardin Obregon (Jardin Zenea)

This is one of Queretaro, Mexico's main parks. Located in the heart of the city, it is a very colorful and busy place. However, there are plenty of spots to also relax. With its tall and lush trees, and its elegant noveau-style garden, this is a square where locals and tourists can enjoy strolling around.

Along with the Plaza de Armas, the Zenea Garden is the largest popular attraction in the Queretaro capital. Various cultural events are presented here, inviting attendees to sit around the kiosk to enjoy the music. 

Things to Do in Queretaro, Mexico #6: Discover Cerro de las Campanas

This hill is one of the most emblematic sites of the city. It was the place of execution of the Emperor Maximiliano de Habsburgo, as well as other historical figures. The name derives from a legend that speaks of some stones that are on the hill. It says that when struck, it recalls the tolling of the bells.

Cerro de las Campanas is actually currently considered a National Park. Due to its large size, it is the venue for various courses and workshops. Also, it has guided tours to get to know this historic site in depth.

Located just outside the capital of Queretaro in Pueblito, is a small picturesque area called Emiliano Zapata. Here you will find a long colorful staircase. Make sure to check it out when it starts to get dark, so you can see them light up.

Additionally, the stairs are great to climb for the beautiful views of the pyramid Xel-Ha. The pyramid is located just a neighborhood over. So it is also worth checking out while in the area.

When you're here, remember to visit the monument of President Benito Juárez Why? Because of its enormous size, which is 13 meters high and 7 meters wide. Because of its imposing size, it is one of the principal  areas of the park.

The aqueduct is definitely something you will love visiting. But how could you get a picture with the whole thing? Well, Queretaro, Mexico's viewpoint is the solution. Isla Tzibantzá

The island of Tzibantza is an ecotourism camp, floating on the Zimapán dam. It is one of the most impressive camps, despite it having a low tourist flow. Isla Tzibantza has great beauty and is part of the magical town of Cadereyta de Montes.

This ecotourism camp was formed thanks to the irregularities that the area had, and a great flood. It is definitely one of the most interesting day trips from Queretaro.

Peña de Bernal

La Peña de Bernal is the third largest monolith in the world. The first two are the Rock of Gibraltar (Mediterranean) and Sugarloaf Mountain (Rio de Janeiro). This natural monument rises above San Sebastián Bernal, founded in the 17th century.

It's 8.7 million years old, and its creation happened when a viscous lava dome merged with much older rocks of marine origin. Those rocks were 100-150 million years old! So, there is really some history behind this place.

You can go on incredible hikes to the very top, and have stunning views, or you can admire it as a backdrop behind the city.

12. Guanajuato

Words just can't do justice to how beautiful Guanajuato is. The city is built in the hills, and is just breathtaking. Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Guanajuato is covered with colorful houses. What makes it unique is that it only has 4 main roads, and the rest of the city is formed by 3,600 alleys.

They even have a tour at night called "Callejoneada", where they take you on a walking tour through the most popular alleys, while drinking, singing and dancing. The tour is probably one of the most fun tours we've ever done!
