The official language in Haiti is French Creole. However, being that Labadee is a privately owned island, everyone speaks English as well.

Because Labadee is a private area, and not actually a local area of Haiti, the US dollar is what is accepted. Also, because it belongs to the cruise line, there are times you can actually charge things to your onboard account.

When it comes to drinks, the bars are tended to by the Labadee Haiti Royal Caribbean employees. This means that if you have the drink package, drink up as much as you'd like! If you don't, you can use your sea pass card to charge everything to your onboard account.

Water is offered all over Labadee, and can be refilled for free whichever bar or restaurant that you go to. It is completely safe to drink, and bringing your own is not necessary at all.

Tipping in Labadee

Being that Labadee is part of the cruise line, the tipping standard is the same as the US. Tipping averages around 20%, and should especially be used when tipping your bartenders across the beach (they are all employees from onboard).

It is also important to tip the people who are pushing your wheelchair if you use one, and it's nice to tip the locals who are performing on the pier.
