Trinidad, Cuba, is one of the island’s best-preserved colonial towns, offering visitors a perfect blend of history, culture, natural beauty, and laid-back charm.
Whether you're walking through cobblestone streets or relaxing on the beach, this UNESCO World Heritage site has plenty to offer. Here are the top things to do in Trinidad, Cuba.
1. Explore the Historic Old Town
Trinidad’s Old Town is the heart of the city, where cobbled streets, pastel-colored buildings, and vibrant plazas come together to create the perfectly charming city for your Cuba bucket list.
Wander through this picturesque streets, and you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. Make sure to visit Plaza Mayor, the town's main square, and explore the different historical buildings that make up the center of colorful Trinidad.

2. Take a Free Walking Tour
A free walking tour is the best way to dive into the history and culture of any city, and there's no exception for Trinidad. Join this free walking tour to learn all about Trinidad, and explore the hidden gems and stories that the city has to offer.
Tours are two hours long, and are in English, Spanish and French. Don't forget to tip!
English Tours: 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm
Spanish Tours: 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm
French Tours: 10:00 am and 5:00 pm

3. Visit the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

This former palace now serves as the Museo Historico Municipal, also known as the Municipal Historic Museum. The building’s grand architecture and incredible views from the rooftop make it a great place to learn about Trinidad's history while taking in some of the best vistas in the town.

5. Have a Rooftop Drink at la Nueva Era Palador
Our favorite place to eat and drink in Trinidad had to be la Nueva Era Palador. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with what feels like an entire musuem of quirky decor.
There are several terraces with stunning views of the old town, and they have excellent daquiris, and a great lunch menu.
Whether you go for a bite to eat or grab a drink at sunset, definitely add this place on your list of top things to do in Trinidad, Cuba.
6. Shop for Local Handicrafts
Trinidad is home to a some incredible artisans. We were told there was a market where you can buy locally made handicrafts and souvenirs called Mercado de las Artesanias, but it wasn't open when we were there.
Regardless of the market though, there were plenty of beautiful shops, and one of our favroite things to do in Trinidad was to go from store to store exploring the beautiful handmade dresses, bags, and other souvenirs like handwoven baskets and jewelry.
Going shopping in Trinidad is a great way to support local artisans and take home a piece of this city's incredible culture.

7. Relax at Playa Ancón
Located just a short drive from the town, is Playa Ancón, which is one of the most popular beaches in the area. This idyllic spot offers soft sand, crystal-clear waters, and a variety of water sports like snorkeling, diving, and kayaking.
Whether you're lounging in the sun, exploring the underwater world, or watching the sunset, visiting Playa Ancón is one of the top things to Trinidad, Cuba.
PS: We really only recommend visiting here in the dry season, as there were a ton of mosquitos when we went in June.

Just outside Trinidad, the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills) is a vast sugar-producing region rich in history and beautiful nature.

Don’t miss a visit to the viewpoint at the first building entering the region, as well as the Manaca Iznaga Tower, which offers panoramic views of the valley.

It can either be a day trip from one of the two cities, or you can stop there on the way to Cien Fuegos if you plan on going there after Trinidad.
13. Explore El Cubano Natural Park
Also a part of Topes de Collantes Nature Reserve, El Cubano Natural Park is a hidden gem right outside of Trinidad known for its lush landscapes, hiking trails, and refreshing natural pools.
Don't miss out on the stunning Javira waterfall, which can be reached by a moderate 3 km hiking trail.
El Cubano is an excellent spot for those seeking both adventure and relaxation, and is certainly one of the top things to do in Trinidad, Cuba for those looking to cool off from the intense Trinidad heat.
