One thing that we found really interesting, is that when dining out you'll always find these big picnic tables with their own specific structure, making everything look really VIP and intimate. Most restaurants have big, beautiful outdoor areas, and inside many restaurants even have small rooms for each group!



ย What Do Azerbaijanis Eat for Breakfast?
Breakfast is usually a large spread of breads, cheeses, butter, honey, eggs, jams, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Tea is always served, typically black tea.
We were invited to breakfast in Guba by a girl and we were blown away by the Azerbaijani hospitality. The breakfast spread was absolutely incredible, and it was our first real glimpse into how special meals are in Azerbaijan.
Local favorites include:
- Qutab, thin flatbreads stuffed with herbs, pumpkin, or minced meat
- Fresh herbs and vegetables with bread and cheese
- Seasonal fruits such as pomegranates and grapes

Lunch is typically the most filling meal of the day in Azerbaijan. Families and restaurants serve shared dishes including stews, rice dishes, and grilled meats. We particularly loved all of our lunches in Azerbaijan because we always had them outside enjoying the stunning nature around us with delicious dishes.
- Plov with saffron, lamb, and chestnuts
- Dolma made with vine leaves or stuffed vegetables
- Piti, a lamb stew with chickpeas and potatoes served in clay pots
- Kebabs grilled over hot coals
Lunch usually takes place between 1 and 3 pm, when restaurants are busiest.
