How to Spend 1 Day in Tirana: The Top Things to Do in Albania’s Capital

🍳 9:00 Start off With Breakfast
Before planning on how to spend 1 day in Tirana, you’ll want to fuel up for a busy day! Grab a cup of coffee or quick breakfast first. We recommend Coko, but you can also grab something more low key and go for a nice lunch at Coko later on.
🚶🏻 10:00 AM Take a Free Walking Tour
One of our favorite ways of discovering new cities and meeting locals is by taking a free walking tour. Especially in a city like Tirana that isn’t teeming with stunning places, this is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture, and learn about the history of the city.
Guru Walk offers various tours at this time, with most meeting at the Opera House, lasting for around 2-2 1/2 hours.
Some of the highlights that they’ll take you to are Skanderburg Square, Et’Hem Bey Mosque, The National Art Gallery, and the Pyramid. If you happen to miss the tour, or they are full, these are the sites we recommend you to go to in the area.
🏛️ 12:30 Check Out the Bunk’Art Museum
Now that you’ve learned about the history of Tirana and seen some of the main sites, we think you should visit the most important museum in Tirana, called Bunk’Art. There are actually two of them (the more popular one being the second) and you can enter an old bunker and learn about the former Cold War.
🍴 1:00/ 1:30 Lunch
Now that you’ve been exploring all that the center of Tirana has to offer, it’s time for a bite to eat! We have a list of some of our favorite places to eat in our Tirana travel guide.
Here are are a few of our favorite great dining options in Tirana:
💧 2:30/3:00 Visit Bovilla Lake
Bovilla Lake was hands down our favorite part of staying in Tirana, and is actually an awesome day trip. If you rent a car (better if it’s a 4×4) you can visit here on your own. The drive is one hour, and the place you’ll want to plug into the GPS is Bovilla Restorant. (Don’t put Bovilla Lake, as we did this and it brought us to the wrong end of the lake).
You can park right next to the restaurant, and the climb up to this epic viewpoint is just 5-10 minutes. It may not be for the faint of heart, but it truly is worth it!
The drive there is an hour each way, and we spent about 45 minutes walking up, enjoying the view, and waking back. If you go on your own, you’ll be able to make it there and back in less than 3 hours.
🚐 Visiting Bovilla Lake with a Tour
If you don’t have a car and would like to visit Bovilla Lake with a tour, this will actually be a day trip, as the excursions include different activities as well including guided climbs, city tours, and food/drinks.
This is also a great option to do, as it will allow you to spend 1 day in Tirana hitting the highlights in a different way.

We’re sure you’re hungry and ready to have a delicious dinner! We have a list of our favorite restaurants in Tirana in our Tirana travel guide. But if you’re just spending 1 day in Tirana, then we highly recommend dining at Habitat, a high-end family-run restaurant with the freshest ingredients and the tastiest dishes.
🍸 9:00/10:00 Hit the Bars
Now it’s time for our favorite part! Capital cities always have the best nightlife, and Tirana is no exception. The best area to go out is in Blloku, which is a trendy neighborhood full of great places to eat and drink. Two of our favorite spots that we recommend to check out are Radio Bar and Pepper Lounge.
Pepper Lounge is one of the best bars in Tirana.
