Lithuania use the same plug types as the rest of Europe, which are types C & F. The standard voltage in Vilnius is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
🚰 Can I Drink Tap Water in Vilnius?
Water is perfectly fine to drink in Vilnius, and although bottled water is more common in restaurants, it’s also perfectly fine to ask for tap water when you’re dining out.

- Pogo Hostel: this is the hostel we stayed at – it’s simple, but it’s well-located and has a washing machine.

We felt perfectly safe walking around Vilnius at night, especially in the old town. I even visited Vilnius on my own years ago, and never felt danger in any way.

The first time I visited Vilnius I was a young solo female traveler and felt completely safe! I’d recommend staying in a hostel so that you can make friends, and to join tours to enjoy some of the city’s great activities with them.

Vilnius has a temperate climate with cold, snowy winters and mild, warm summers. January is typically the coldest month with very short days, while July and August are the warmest and have very long days. Out of all of the Baltic capitals, we did find Vilnius to be a bit less cold in the winter.
📆 What is the Best Time to Visit Vilnius?
June through August is the most popular time to visit Vilnius, thanks to warm weather and long daylight hours. If you prefer fewer crowds and festive vibes though, December is magical with its Christmas market!
We love both summer and winter to visit Vilnius. Summer is great for its unique activities, perfect temperatures, and fun festivals, while winter is when Vilnius shows that it’s one of the most underrated destinations for the holiday season.
🎒 Packing For a Trip to Vilnius, Lithuania
Ready to pack your bags? Here are some things we’d recommend bringing with you on a trip to Vilnius:
- Comfortable shoes for walking around (ditch the heels!)
- Bathing suit for the nearby lakes in summer or for saunas in the winter
