Tirana is not a conventionally attractive capital, and it certainly doesn’t stand out as one of the best places to visit in Albania for first-timers. That being said, we definitely do think you should at least visit Tirana for one day, as it has a few reasons for visiting.

Albania’s capital has a fascinating mix of Ottoman, Italian, and Communist history, colorful buildings, lively squares, and a growing food and nightlife scene, all surrounded by mountains.

While Tirana may not have the famous landmarks of cities like Rome or Paris, there are plenty of things to do in Tirana if you give the city a chance. We found that the best way to experience it is to mix sightseeing with local food, wandering through the neighborhoods, and getting out into the surrounding nature.
