Where to Travel to in May: Our Top 5 Picks Around the World

Looking for where to travel to in May? Well, this is one of our favorite months to travel. The weather is starting to finally warm up significantly in the Northern hemisphere, while temperatures are still moderate in the Southern hemishere.

While Spring (or Autumn) is coming to end, and it's not necessarily warm enough in some places to go to the beach, this is still the perfect time for certain destinations.

This is the month to beat the crowds to those overcrowded summer destinations. So that's why we're here to share some of our five favorite picks for where to travel to in May.

Where to Travel to in May #1:  The Greek Islands

Greece is pure paradise, and should definitely be on every travelers' bucket list. While the stunning beaches and cliffside cities are extremely magical, being surrounded by huge crowds in unbearably hot temperatures is not. 

Tourists start flooding the islands from June- August, so get there before the crowds and you'll experience the islands at their best. May is the perfect months because the temperatures have risen enough to enjoy beach days, but are cool enough to comfortably walk around the quaint streets.

Prices will be much lower during the month of May, especially in the beginning of the month. So get ready to experience the Greek islands at their best!

Where to Travel to in May #2: The Amalfi Coast, Italy 

Another European hotspot for the summer is the Amalfi Coast. While we absolutely love this Italian coast, there are far too many tourists in the summer months.

Visit in May, and you'll be able to truly soak up the vibes of all the Amalfi Coast has to offer. You'll still be able to lie on the beach, but you won't have to fight your way in between the busy beach clubs.

We actually visited in October, and found that it was also a great place to visit at that time, although we couldn't enjoy the beach to its greatest. That's why we think the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is either September or May.

Where to Travel to in May #3: The Jersey Shore, USA

The Jersey shore may get a bad rep, but we truly do know how to party. May is a great time to visit, because the end of the month is Memorial Day Weekend. Despite this holiday being for the remembrance of those who died in war, the true celebration is the unofficial start to summer.

Both New Yorkers and locals alike flock to the beaches to party all weekend long, and barbecue with family and friends. Head to Belmar, and you'll find this sleepy beach town come back to life after a long winter closed.

The bars and clubs along the beach will throw huge parties, and you'll also find that all of the young adults will start moving into their summer beach houses. The vibe is super fun, and our top pick for where to travel to in May inside the US.

While it's not really a huge tourist spot, this is perfect for those that want to indulge in the true fun of this underrated area of the US.

Where to Travel to in May #4: Turkey

Turkey is another European destination that is extremely popular for the summer. In our opinion, Turkey is way too hot in the Sumer months, and not nearly as enjoyable as the spring time.

Visit in the beginning of May, and you'll get to experience this country with amazing weather, and smaller crowds. Roam the ancient cities of Istanbul and Izmir, swim in the turquoise waters of Antalya, or experience the magic of the hot air balloons in Cappadocia. There is something for everyone in Turkey!

Where to Travel to in May #5: Cusco, Peru

Cusco is hands down our favorite place in Peru, and definitely the best place to travel in May.

The city of Cusco is home to some of the best landscapes in the country, including Rainbow Mountain, Humanity Lake, and the famous Machu Picchu. May is the perfect time to visit this area because the weather is still dry, but most of the crowds start to go down.
