Costa Blanca in Spain is a coastline in the eastern part of the country. The area stretches along 200 kilometers throughout the province of Alicante. Boasting gorgeous beaches, adorable towns, and unique landscapes. there is so much to do in this small corner of Spain. 


One could spend weeks exploring all there is to do through Costa Blanca in Spain. However, we had just a few days, and were able to pack quite a bit into our itinerary. This area makes the perfect beach getaway from Madrid, and is just around the corner from Valencia.


Alicante is the main airport of Costa Blanca in Spain, and has plenty of cheap flights from all around Europe. So let's jump right in and show you all of the amazing spots to check out in Costa Blanca.

Alicante is not just the region, but is also a major city. Located on the beach, this coastal city has a little bit for everyone. Head to the beach to relax, climb up to the fortress from some great views, or brose the various kiosks lined along the trendy palm tree lined boulevard.

Alicante is the most popular city to visit in Costa Blanca, Spain.

Our favorite thing to do in Alicante is to participate in the famous "tardeo". This is pretty much bar hopping and day drinking all Saturday. Walk into each bar and you will feel as if you just transported to 3 am. The venues are blacked out and offer drink specials all afternoon. So get ready to party!

Benidorm is one of the most popular places along Costa Blanca in Spain. Where else can you find soaring skyscrapers perched along white sands and turquoise waters? 


This city brings tourists from all over, and is a great spot for those that want to party and enjoy the beach. Head to "La Cruz de Benidorm" for the best views. We went at sunset and it was simply magical.

Calpe is definitely one of our favorite places in Costa Blanca in Spain. This spot has a great mix of quaint and colorful streets, beautiful beaches, and some of the best views in all of Spain.

Peñon de Ifach

The number one thing to do in Calpe is to hike Peñon de Ifach. Here you can appreciate the 360 degree views of beauty. The top viewpoint juts out off the peninsula and offers views of the city below, various beaches, and the shimmering sea behind it.

Make sure to get your tickets in advance! There are only 300 tickets a day, and they sell out days ahead.

The hike will take a good portion of your day, as it is a few hours round trip. Make sure to bring good sneakers, plenty of water, and sunscreen.

Historical Center of Calpe

Another great thing to do in Calpe is to walk around the historical center. Here you will find small streets with colorful art installations. Our two favorites are the recycled and painted plastic cups and jugs hanging along the street pictured above, as well as the giant staircase painted with the Spanish flag pictured below.

Muralla Roja

This is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Costa Blanca, Spain. The stunning architecture and vibrant pink color brings tourists from across the globe. However, this is a residential spot, and not open to the public. So if you'd like to experience La Muralla Roja yourself, you'll have to book one of the various apartments offered. Altea is the spot on Costa Blanca, Spain that will truly make you feel as if you've teleported to Greece. 


You could spend hours just wandering along the white washed streets of this adorable town. The main square has a church and plenty of cute shops and restaurants. Walk up hill and you will find stunning views of the turquoise waters below. Or you can head down and enjoy the refreshing waters at the beach,

Best Places to Visit Around Costa Blanca in Spain #6: The Pink Lake of Torrevieja

Have you ever heard of a pink lake? Well there are several of them scattered throughout the world, some more pink than others. While many are actually more of a reddish tint, the pink lake of Torrevieja is actually bubble gum pink!


The color is due to tiny microscopic organisms. The lake is super salty- salty enough to actually float! There aren't any amenities here, although we did see plenty of people swimming. It is free of charge to visit, but we suggest bringing fresh water to wash off with if you don't have a hotel nearby.

These abandoned salt mines are located in the small town of Mazarron. This is one of the most colorful places when it comes to natural landscapes, as the minerals in the sediment features bright hues of orange, red, yellow, and even green.

There is no real entrance here, but you can walk around freely to admire the landscapes. If you come here after a lot of rainfall you also may be lucky enough to see the red lake that forms here! It was dried up when we were there as we went in late August.

Just a little further south of Mazarron is the small beach town of Bolnuevo. This long stretch of golden sand is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing beach day.


Right across the street from the beach you can find a peculiar rock formation  called Ciudad Encantada de Bolnuevo. The heavily eroded sandstone formation is sculpted by water and wind over thousands of years, creating a natural piece of art for visitors to enjoy.

Best Places to Visit Around Costa Blanca in Spain #9: Ponts del Mascarat

Right outside the town of Altea lies this picturesque bridge. Although one of the two are no longer in use, it makes for a great photography spot. Start from the town below and you can take a trail leading directly under the bridge for a great Instagrammable shot.

This is definitely the most stunning church in Costa Blanca, Spain. Santuario Santa Maria Magdalena is perched up on a hill in the small town of Novelda. The striking architecture and stunning views around it make it the perfect stop before arriving or leaving Alicante from Madrid.


It is free of charge to enter, and there is a large parking lot where you can safely keep your car. Free restrooms are also in the parking lot, and plenty of benches around the church to sit and enjoy the views.

This is one of the most beautiful churches in Costa Blanca, Spain.

Best Places to Visit Around Costa Blanca in Spain #11: El Forat de Bernia

This is a great area in Costa Blanca, Spain for hikers. There are various trails in the area, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The best trail to take is the one that actually goes to El Forat, which is a cave forged into the mountain. The cave opens up to a stunning vista of Marina Baixa, a coastal area in Altea.


The hike takes a few hours, so we suggest starting early to beat the heat if you are going in the summer months, Bring good sneakers, and drive carefully up the winding road to Forat de Bernia.

Best Places to Visit Around Costa Blanca in Spain #14: Cova Tallada

All the way in the northern region of Costa Blanca in Spain lies Cova Tallada. This cove is perfect for hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling. This is the perfect spot for those who want to spend the day exploring the beautiful natural caves that the area has to offer.

Bring a good set of water shoes and a waterproof camera/case for your phone.

This is a stunning hike to see some pretty amazing colorful rock formations. The trail goes through mountains and valleys, and has gorgeous views along the way. It is open 24/7 and is free of charge to visit.


Unfortunately we did not have time to go here, but have seen photos and it is definitely on our list for a future visit!

Costa Blanca is a fabulous region of Spain. There are a variety of landscapes, and beautiful towns to enjoy. We definitely recommend enjoying the seafood and the paella in this region. A full week here and you can cover most of these, as they are all within an hour and a half of the city of Alicante.
