The Basics of Capturing the Most Instagrammable Places in Puerto Rico
Before diving into all of the Instagrammable places in Puerto Rico, let’s talk about the most popular areas of the island, and the main places to base yourself.
😍 What is the Most Photographed Place in Puerto Rico?
The most photographed place in Puerto Rico is typically Old San Juan, as it is the tourist hub of the island, especially for people visiting on cruise ships. It’s known for its colonial architecture, pastel facades, and cobblestone streets, which make it one of the most charming cities in the Caribbean.

❣️ What Side of Puerto Rico is Prettiest to Photograph?
While San Juan is certainly the most popular to photograph, there is SO much more to Puerto Rico than just its capital.
The island is full of gorgeous beaches, incredible waterfalls, and lush jungle. If you’re a beach lover, the East Coast and nearby islands are incredible. If you enjoy waterfalls and greenery, then visiting El Yunque or the interior of the island are going to be your favorite. We also love Puerto Rico’s colorful towns, which most reside in the west and the south of the island.

We’re going to share with you all of the tips and tricks for taking some of the best photos during your trip, but first, let’s look at all of the fun instagrammable places in Puerto Rico to explore!
1. Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Old San Juan
Located right in the heart of Old San Juan lies a beautiful fortress right on the coast. Wander through the different stone walls and crevices for some great shots.
You can walk down on the bottom outside the fortress as well along a winding sidewalk with tons of adorable cats, or watch the mesmerizing sunset on the grass.

One of the most Instagrammable spots in San Juan is the fort area, which is great for sunset.

Every now and then the decor changes for different occasions, such as switching to pink umbrellas for breast cancer awareness, or a giant Puerto Rican flag running along the top.

3. Yaucromatic, Yauco
If you like color, than this is the spot for you! This small neighborhood celebrates the vibrance of art and culture with its colorfully painted houses, stairs, and even the odd tree. Local artists have created this project just a few years ago, and it is really a sight to see!

4. Cerro de Punta, Adjuntas
Cerro de Punta marks the highest point of the island. Reaching 1,338 meters above sea level, you can get a great view of the surrounding hills, towns, and even beaches.
There is a road that goes all the way to the top, but we suggest parking on the side of the road and walking the last 800 meters as the road is pretty beat up at the top.
When you arrive there is a government building that says no trespassing. However, when we arrived there was a local working there that informed us that there was no problem going on the property. Just make sure that you don’t touch any of the wires or towers around!

5. Treehouse at Royal Palms, San German
This AirBnb is the ultimate Instagrammable spots in Puerto Rico to stay! Located on the west end of the island, this stylish treehouse is surrounded by greenery.
There is a bridge at the entrance and a curved stairwell up to your perfect jungle retreat, equipped with a kitchen, two full beds, a couch, rainfall shower, and two swinging hammock chairs.

6. Coca Falls, El Yunque
El Yunque is Puerto Rico’s famous rainforest that features an abundance of beautiful places.
Here you can find several trails, waterfalls, and viewpoints. While there are so many great photo opportunities, our personal favorite is the first stop in the park, Coca Falls. It is located right off the side of the road, making it a really easy stop!

Curva del Arbol has great views and a swing at the top.
8. Chorros del Rio La Planta, Arecibo
This waterfall is located right in Arecibo, and actually isn’t very popular. Once you park the first set of falls is located right there. Go further down the river and you will find a large waterfall at the end that you will most likely have to yourselves. Enjoy!

La Planta Arecibo has two sets of waterfalls.
9. Pozo el Jacinto, Isabela
This spot is located right next to Playa Jobos, one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico. Here you can appreciate the waves crashing down. Get a shot with the splash behind you for an extra cool Insta Shot.

10. Gozalandia Falls, San Sebastian
Another one of our favorite waterfalls in Puerto Rico is Gozalandia Falls. Located in the north west of the island, it makes a great place to stop if you are staying in Isabela or San German.
The falls have a rope on the side to climb up, and a small cave on the left, as well as a beautiful river running down to be explored.

Gozalandia falls has two sets of falls. This is the first, which you can climb and jump off of.
11. Abandoned Airplane, Aguadilla
This is such a cool spot, and offers not just one, but several different great photo opportunities. You can explore not only the great art on the outside, but the inside of the airplane. This spot is free of charge to check out, but they do accept donations. If you love art and travel, then this is one of the best reasons to add Aguadilla to your itinerary!

12. Puente La Hamaca, Adjuntas
This is one of the Instagrammable spots in Puerto Rico that is totally off-the-beaten-path. It’s an abandoned bridge that isn’t typically crossed, as it’s not the safest. However, if you can brave the quest it delivers a pretty cool photo opportunity for those willing to cross. Bringing a drone here made it one of our favorite Instagrammable places in Puerto Rico.

13. Cerro Cabrera, Aguadilla
If you’re staying on the north west of the island, this is a great alternative to Yaucromatic, and one of the most colorful places on the island. This small neighborhood is bursting with vibrant paint, and even has the streets around it covered in creative murals. Cerro Cabrera is definitely a place you will want to stop and take out your camera!

14. Mar Chiquita
This beach will make you feel like you’re on the moon! Grab your camera for one of the coolest Instagrammable places in Puerto Rico. This place can be best appreciated by bringing a drone to appreciate the round shape of the beach, and the pools formed in the craters.

19. Crash Boat Beach, Aguadilla
This is one of the best Instagrammable places in Puerto Rico, because it is just so unique! Due to the waves crashing on the piers, you can get splashes reaching up to 30 feet! A pretty cool backdrop right?

20. Cerro el Rodadero
This is quite literally, the best seat in the house! This is not for the faint of heart though. It is extremely dangerous, and if you are planning on going up for that shot please be EXTRA careful! This wasn’t one of our parents’ favorite shots, so we actually think it may be better to just enjoy the stunning views without climbing up.

The Most Instagrammable Places in Puerto Rico: Final Thoughts & What’s Next
There are so many Instagrammable places in Puerto Rico, and these are just some of our favorites! We highly recommend wandering towns to see what you come across, especially in the mornings when you can escape the crowds and have better lighting.
Always back up your material, carry a power bank, and have some sort of waterproof equipment to capture the beaches, waterfalls, and other great places in nature.
Other great spots that weren’t mentioned are several islands and cayes that we weren’t able to access due to the lockdown. If you get the chance check out the islands of Culebra and Vieques, as they have some really beautiful and unique beaches. Palominito Cay, and Monkey Island are also some great small islands to check out.
